The Administration & Finance Department of the ACLU?s National office in New York City is seeking applications for the full-time position of Accounting Assistant. OVERVIEW The Accounting Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Manager of Financial Reporting. The primary functions of the Accounting Assistant will be to provide general clerical/administrative support to the Finance Team within the Administration and Finance Department. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist with bookkeeping and related accounting tasks. Handle general administrative duties for the department including handling phone calls, processing invoices, ordering supplies, drafting correspondence, etc. Schedule meetings and conference calls; prepare relevant materials. Assist with back-up coverage for receptionist Handle copying jobs, distribute mail and perform other administrative office duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree and/or 1-2 years of clerical/administrative work experience preferred. Familiarity with basic accounting principles, terms and knowledge of Sage accounting software is not required but is a plus. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (including Word and Excel). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Good interpersonal, written, verbal and communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as within a team. A commitment to the mission and goals of the ACLU. COMPENSATION Salary for this position is $40,546.
