Job Title: State Director, Mississippi

Description: The State Director serves as the primary state leader, advocate and strategist, leveraging and coordinating the affiliate?s plans in the areas of development/fundraising, public affairs, legislative affairs, advocacy and communications.

The State Director works closely with the national office and affiliate leadership in identifying and developing partnerships to enhance the local affiliate?s mission and helps achieves their strategic plan. In this newly created role, the State Director serves as the primary contact with key community leaders and coalition partners in helping to build a longer term public affairs and community engagement program in support of access and expansion to reproductive health care in the state. Given the fast changing economic and political environments, the State Director will thrive in entrepreneurial settings and be able to operate at the most strategic levels and execute as needed with limited staff and resources. The State Director will serve in a dual-report role both to the national office?s program director and the local affiliate?s CEO in pursuit of its mission to provide comprehensive, reproductive and complementary health care services to anyone without regard of the individual?s income, marital state, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, natural origin or residence. In this highly collaborative and coordinated effort, the State Director manages all non-clinical operations of the local affiliate including public policy, development, communications and public affairs staff and creates the opportunity to attract and engage additional staff in support of expansion work in the state. The State Director will help provide an environment of mentorship and professional development in this unique time for the organization.

The State Director will serve as a partner and resource for the Medical & Clinical Services staff to help translate policy issues that may affect their ability to deliver services.
In this unique partnership the State Director will also work closely with the Financial Services staff and provide guidance for yearly and long term budget development and planning. While each State Director may be presented with unique environments, reporting arrangements and/or affiliate level goals, the overarching role is paramount; to serve as the strategic driving force in the state to support the mission and goals of PPFA, the local affiliate and the patients they mutually serve.
