| Description: | POSITION AVAILABLE: December 2012 through June 2013 REPORTS TO: Manager of Youth Initiatives HOURS: 15-20 hours per week. The intern must be in on Tuesdays and Thursdays, preferably from 10AM - 6PM. Additional hours are flexible. COMPENSATION: This position is unpaid. We will help secure academic credit, if applicable. SUMMARY: The Teen Outreach Reproductive CHallenge, known as TORCH, is a nationally recognized program that combines peer health education and leadership training for New York City youth, with a strong emphasis on empowerment and team building. Addressing the critical issues of reproductive health care through peer outreach and education, community organizing, and advocacy, TORCH Peer Leaders build their self-esteem, develop leadership skills, and learn to make responsible choices. After a rigorous training program, TORCH Peer Leaders share their knowledge with other teens by facilitating workshops around New York City. As part of the TORCH Program, the Adolescent Health Care Communication Program (AHCCP) was developed to help providers and teens work together to break down communication barriers when it comes to sexual and reproductive health issues, and as a result, improve the delivery of preventive and clinical services to adolescents. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Interns provide hands-on assistance to a diverse and dynamic group of high school students from all five boroughs of New York City who are involved in this nationally recognized program. ~Assist with all aspects of outreach, supervision and administration of TORCH?s youth projects ~Help develop and organize resource materials for youth ~Assist in program planning and implementation ~Assist in planning and facilitating group meetings ~Offer mentorship to youth leaders ~Track outreach efforts and their results ~Assist TORCH staff with other tasks as necessary QUALIFICATIONS: ~An understanding and enjoyment of working directly with teens. ~Research and computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and data entry. ~Time, organizational and management skills. ~Must be a team player. ~Strong personal commitment to youth development and reproductive health/rights/justice issues. ~Educational experience/program planning a plus.
