Job Title: Reproductive Health Law Fellow

Description: The National Women's Law Center is seeking a recent law school graduate, judicial clerk, or third-year law student to work on major reproductive rights policy initiatives affecting women as a Reproductive Health Law Fellow. This is a two-year fellowship funded by the Center. The applicant must be available to begin by September 2013.

The Organization

For four decades, the National Women's Law Center (NWLC) has led the way in expanding possibilities for women and families in the United States. NWLC uses the law in all its forms to protect and advance the progress of women and families at work, in school, and in virtually every aspect of their lives. NWLC takes on the issues that cut to the core of women's lives in education, employment, family economic security, and health and reproductive rights, with special attention given to the needs of low-income women and their families.

Description

The Reproductive Health Law Fellow will work on projects related to all aspects of the Center's reproductive rights program area. This includes preventing unintended pregnancy, including efforts to increase and protect access to contraception and expanding access for low-income women through Medicaid and private insurance coverage; addressing barriers to reproductive health care access, such as religious restrictions; and protecting a woman's right to safe, legal abortion. Responsibilities will include gathering, summarizing and analyzing research and data from a variety of sources; analyzing policy proposals; drafting reports and other written materials, and working with national and state-based coalitions on legislative and regulatory matters.

Qualifications and Benefits

Law degree required. Must have excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills, and organizational skills; attention to detail; and a commitment to women's issues.

Salary commensurate with other public service legal fellowships, 4 weeks of vacation and excellent benefits.
