| Job Title: | Women in Journalism: Engaging Women & Giving Them a Voice |
| Organization: | NGOabroad: International Careers & Volunteering |
| Region: | International |
| Description: | Journalism has always been important to democracy building; it can help build engaged citizens. In Africa, radio is important because it is a means by which people who can not read can hear important news. Radio has united women & raised awareness about their rights. This is one of the places that women can learn about their rights. (A huge issue for women throughout Africa is being thrown off their land when their husband dies because they do not have inheritance rights.) This is one place women can learn what to do if their husband is abusive or they have no money for their children's school fees. Who is needed? -People who have or want experience in radio broadcasting &/or print journalism. -Journalism majors or professionals that can write well. -Many Africa organizations do not want fiery feminists; but this is one place where you are most welcome! -Help with fund-raising, grant writing & marketing to keep media alive for women. This is a volunteer position. Applications accepted on a rolling basis. No end date. Interested?
