| Description: | PowerPlay NYC, Inc., a nonprofit committed to educating and empowering girls through sports and life skills training,is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as Director of the SuperSTARS Summer Leadership Academy for High School Girls, a unique summer enrichment program for girls in grades 9-12. The SuperSTARS Summer Leadership Academy is part of the STARS (Sports Training and Role Models for Success) programming created by PowerPlay NYC to be a healthy living, career education and leadership development experience for New York City high school girls. The Academy is designed to serve girls from low income, underserved communities. The participant pool is comprised of girls from all NYC boroughs representing a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The Academy is designed to offer high school girls the opportunity - learn and participate in a variety of sports, - develop workplace, leadership and life skills for success; - actively participate in a communications skills project – newsletter, video, Talk Show or social action project; - interact with women in a variety of careers; - engage in health and wellness learning, - explore the college admissions process; and - participate in STARWorks mini-internships. The SuperSTARS Summer Leadership Academy takes place from June 27 -August 16, 2013. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years experience working in youth development, including experience in sports coaching or teaching, and out-of-school time learning activities; the ability to multi-task, and the capability to handle administrative responsibilities as well as daily ongoing interaction with program participants and leading life skills workshops. Must be energetic, professional, organized, patient, socially and culturally aware, and detail oriented. Teaching experience a plus. , Duties: - General supervision and oversight of the 32 participants. - General supervision and oversight of the 3-4 person staff. - Primary responsibility for teaching life and workplace skills curriculum - Primary responsibility for college awareness curriculum - Ensuring safe, positive learning environment for all program participants - Guide and supervise Academy participants? work on group projects - Problem solve with youth and parents on discipline issues when necessary - Provide management support and feedback to Academy staff. - Supervise and manage field trips to sports events, college campus and professional offices Qualifications/Requirements: - Bachelor?s degree required - Have experience leading youth in academic or recreational settings. - Be comfortable teaching a curriculum she has not written herself. - Possess experience creating and executing original lesson plans and project units. - Be passionate about girls? empowerment and leadership. - Relate well with girls in grades 9-12. - Possess excellent communication skills. - Be responsible and self-motivated. - Work well with others as part of a team. - Be comfortable with professional observation and regular feedback - Approach problems creatively and proactively - Strong supervisory skills (experience supervising college-age staff helpful) - Proven ability to manage youth discipline issues. - Good sense of humor and enthusiasm To Apply: Send a cover letter and resume to info@powerplaynyc.org.
