Job Title: Community Organizer

Description: We are currently recruiting for a full-time Community Organizer to work in the Executive Offices located at 26 Bleecker Street, NY, NY 10012.

This is an exempt position reporting to the Director of Community Organizing.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Organizer is responsible for creating opportunities for New Yorkers to engage with Planned Parenthood and advocate for sexual and reproductive health equity in a variety of different ways, both online and in-person, and plays a vital role in the furthering of our mission. The Community Organizer oversees the PPNYC Action Fund Activist Council and helps build PPNYC's supporter base in both number and strength through in-person events, field outreach, activist recruitment, training, and development, and online organizing. The Community Organizer oversees PPNYC's Health Center Advocacy program by partnering with health center staff and volunteers. Working with the Director of Community Organizing, the Community Organizer will develop strategies and activities to build activists' skills and cultivate activist groups as organizational assets. The Community Organizer represents PPNYC at a broad range of meetings outside the agency by speaking on reproductive health, rights, and justice issues to a wide variety of audiences, including PPNYC activists, campus groups, allied organizations, and potential partners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires Bachelors Degree or equivalent. Requires at least 1 - 2 years of organizing experience on political or social issues, and a proven ability to motivate, train, and develop other leaders, and a strong commitment to reproductive health, rights, and justice advocacy. Must have the ability to work effectively in coalitions and with diverse communities. Must be enthusiastic and familiar with online tools and tactics; have strong written, verbal, and organizational skills; and the ability to set and meet clear goals. Working knowledge of online advocacy systems a plus.
