The Center works across the globe on issues including access to life-saving obstetrics care, contraception, abortion services and comprehensive sexuality information, as well as the prevention of forced sterilization and child marriage. It has brought groundbreaking cases before national courts, UN committees and regional human rights bodies. It has built the legal capacity of women's rights advocates in more than 50 countries. In addition to a headquarters in New York City, the Center has offices in: Washington D.C.; Bogota, Colombia; Kathmandu, Nepal; Nairobi, Kenya; and Geneva, Switzerland. It employs more than 100 professionals from Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Kenya, Korea, Nepal, Nigeria, the Philippines, Slovakia, Sweden and the US. The Legal Assistant will work under the supervision of the Regional Director for Europe and the Global Advocacy Director, and will collaborate closely with the Legal Adviser for Europe, the Legal Adviser for Europe and Global Advocacy, the Advocacy Advisers and the Global Advocacy Program Fellow, to support and build department work. Responsibilities: -Providing administrative support to the Regional Director for Europe and the Global Advocacy Director, including: drafting, faxing, mailing of correspondence, scheduling meetings, making copies, handling international travel arrangements, processing reimbursements/cash advances/check requests/wire transfers, and maintaining filing system. -Editing, fact-checking, and cite-checking papers, reports, legal submissions, factsheets, and other publications. -Assisting with research, drafting, and preparation of legal submissions and materials for publication. -Working with the Communications Department to coordinate publication processes. -Assisting with organization and coordination of program-related events. -Drafting and editing program material for website. -Assisting with responses to inquiries and maintaining relationships with NGOs, and key partners worldwide. -Assisting with the budget and planning process for the department. Keeping the Regional Director for Europe and the Global Advocacy Director informed of budget-related matters, keep track of budget-related deadlines, and coordinate budget meetings with the Finance Department. -Tracking and inputting data into the organization's monitoring and evaluation system. -Providing support and periodic training to new legal assistants, as necessary. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: -B.A. degree or foreign equivalent is required -2 or more years of experience in an administrative position -Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and use of email -Excellent communication, writing and research skills -Experience with producing materials for publication -Ability to balance multiple tasks and coordinate with different departments -Commitment to reproductive rights and women?s human rights issues -International experience is required -Basic knowledge about the law, legal writing, and different legal systems is a plus -Knowledge of UN and/or regional human rights system is a plus -Proficiency in Spanish, French and/or Russian is a plus Duration of Position: This is a permanent full-time position beginning May 2013.
