Description: The Laboratory Services Cooperative (LSC) is owned by Planned Parenthood (PP) affiliate members. It provides rapid, high quality laboratory testing for PP patients and creates a significant source of new revenue to help fund affiliate program and services. The LSC is one of the only cooperative laboratories in the country, authorized as a cooperative hospital service organization (501e).
As a cooperative, the members (PP affiliates) share expenses and revenues. LSC began as an internal laboratory at Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest to provide STI testing for patients. It became a cooperative in 2010 and now provides laboratory services to several other PP affiliates. The LSC is poised for quick growth as it moves toward its strategic goal of creating a national presence and tripling the size of its current membership and revenue. The laboratory is located just outside of Seattle in Bremerton, Washington and currently operates with a several million dollar operating budget. The President will provide strategic, high-growth leadership as LSC navigates a changing healthcare and political landscape. Under the President's direction, LSC will work closely with LSC staff, PPFA management staff, and affiliate staff and outside vendors to rapidly expand current lab services to affiliates across the Federation. In the initial months the President will be challenged to develop a robust business development plan that leverages short term opportunities as well as builds a roadmap for longer term growth. Included in this plan is the development of a sophisticated infrastructure, including business expansion and growing collaborative partnerships. As part of LSC's longer term growth plan, the President will evaluate the impact of online health services/service delivery and provide guidance and execution on necessary changes to financial models, operational roadmaps and technology infrastructure needs. An effective President possesses extensive strategic planning experience in the ability to look at contingency planning, the delivery of online health services and, with health care reform implementation, the opportunities that may exist to expand the portfolio of services that can be made available to affiliates and partners. With a nimble and lean staff, the President will have confidence in both managing direct employees & vendors as well as being in the sole role of adding affiliate customers, and evaluating technologies with a solid understanding of regulatory, compliance and insurance billing issues. The President also needs to ensure the ability to operationalize his/her vision in coordination with a clear understanding of day to day lab functioning issues. Positioned for growth, the President will provide both vision and execution in their first year in moving LSC in tripling the number of affiliates served as well as associated revenue. The President reports to the LSC board and liaisons with PPGNW, PPFA and PP affiliates.
