| Description: | Police Officer?UT-Police Department (Houston) The University of Texas Police Department at Houston (UTPD) provides law enforcement and protective services to MD Anderson Cancer Center and UT-Health Science Center at Houston. Both institutions are located within the Texas Medical Center with additional locations throughout the Houston metropolitan area. As an integral part of MD Anderson and UT-Health, we align our vision with the visions of both institutions. UTPD is a professional university police department that is CALEA and IACLEA accredited and TPCA recognized. UTPD provides paid training, including innovative tactical training that is utilized for the issue and deployment of patrol rifles to qualified officers. We have a departmental Special Response Team (SRT), and currently have five officers who are active on the UT System Rapid Response Team (SRRT). UTPD also has special assignments in Criminal Investigations, Intelligence, Professional Standards and Crime Prevention. We offer competitive pay and excellent benefits. For additional information, see below. We are currently accepting applications for a Police Officer. The primary purpose of the Police Officer position is to serve and protect the community, enforce the law, aid all citizens as circumstances require, prevent crime, mitigate disturbances, investigate criminal offenses and arrest offenders. Key Functions 1. Perform law enforcement duties on the property under the control and jurisdiction of the University of Texas System. Preserve the peace by the use of all lawful means, interceding when authorized by law, to prevent or suppress crime. 2. Execute all lawful process. Arrest offenders with and without warrant when authorized by law. Investigate criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals, and recover stolen or lost property. Attempt to locate missing persons. 3. Enforce traffic law by detecting violations, making violator contacts, placing violators in custody or issuing citations or warnings. Investigate motor vehicle collisions. 4. Prepare various written reports narrating law enforcement and police activities. 5. Give credible testimony in the criminal courts of this state and the United States. Confers with prosecuting attorneys, preserves evidence and maintains confidential information. Confers with local law enforcement, criminal justice and emergency response agencies on matters of mutual interest. 6. Other duties as assigned. Education Required: High School Diploma or GED, successful completion of a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) approved Basic Peace Officer Course. Has passed TCLEOSE exam. Preferred: 60 college hours from an accredited college or university. License/Certifications Required: Possess Peace Officer License from TCLEOSE and a valid Texas Driver's License. Must hold a Peace Officer Commission issued by the Director of Police of The University of Texas System. Preferred: Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Systems certification. Experience Required: None Preferred: Successful completion of the prescribed Field Training Program. Note: Must successfully complete the UT-System Police Lateral Academy after hire. Pay and Compensation The salary range for this position is $46,400 to $69,600, and starting pay is on a sliding scale commensurate with experience. For example, a police officer with 10 years of approved experience would have a starting pay of approximately $58,000. We also offer bi-lingual pay (up to $1,200 a year), education pay (up to $3,300 a year), TCLEOSE certification pay (up to $3,600 a year) and a tuition reimbursement through a Cohort (up to $5,250 a year).
