Center Background:

Founded in 1992, the Center for Reproductive Rights is a non-profit organization that promotes women's equality worldwide by securing reproductive rights in constitutional and international human rights law. Its mission is straightforward and ambitious: to advance reproductive freedom as a fundamental right that all governments are legally obligated to protect, respect and fulfill. The Center is unmatched as a reproductive rights organization in its expertise on US constitutional law, comparative law and international human rights law.

The Center works across the globe on issues including access to life-saving obstetrics care, contraception, abortion services and comprehensive sexuality information, as well as the prevention of forced sterilization and child marriage. In the U.S. Legal Program, the Center's preeminent litigation team has helped millions of women and their families by securing government funding for abortions, striking down absolute abortion bans and other access restrictions, and protecting teens' access to emergency contraception and confidential reproductive healthcare services and information. In the last two years, the Center litigated over 20 cases on a range of reproductive rights issues. In addition, the Center is actively engaged in national and state-focused advocacy work, including legislative advocacy and human rights advocacy. At the same time that the Center is defending women's reproductive rights in courts and legislatures, it works toward the long-term goal of promoting reproductive rights and health as a fundamental human rights issue.
In addition, through the work of its Law School Initiative, the Center promotes legal scholarship and teaching on reproductive health and human rights to shape the thinking of the next generation of lawyers, judges, and policymakers.

In addition to a headquarters in New York City, the Center has offices in: Washington D.C.; Bogot?, Colombia; Kathmandu, Nepal; Nairobi, Kenya; and Geneva, Switzerland. It employs more than 100 professionals from Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Kenya, Korea, Nepal, Nigeria, the Philippines, Slovakia, Sweden and the US.

CRR seeks a Legal Assistant for the U.S. Legal Program to the support the work of attorneys and other professionals, as assigned. The position will be based in New York.
Responsibilities:

The Legal Assistant's main responsibilities will include:

-Assisting attorneys in fulfilling their job responsibilities -Maintaining litigation and other files -Preparing legal and other documents -Assisting with legal and factual research -Maintaining attorneys' schedules and coordinating their travel -Handling administrative tasks (e.g., reimbursement requests, tracking workload) -Executing other tasks upon request

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-B.A. degree is required
-Office experience required and legal office experience preferred
-A "can-do" and "will-do" attitude, with the ability to effectively respond to high-pressure situations in a flexible and professional manner
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
-Strong research, writing and communication skills
-Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
-A commitment to women's reproductive rights
-General knowledge of women's rights issues in the United States is desirable
-Familiarity with the United States legal system and experience working on legal issues would be a plus.

Duration of Position:
The position is full-time, beginning in June 2013. We are strongly interested in candidates who are able to make a two year commitment.
