Run by an International group of feminists based in London, this site provides free & numerous listings of events, organizations, and resources around the world. Click on a region on the map to explore the expansive resources on dozens of countries. A great guide to the global women's movement.

Association for Women in Development (AWID)
This international membership organization is "committed to gender equality and a just and sustainable development process." Find information on AWID's programs, advocacy, publications, and upcoming events on this Web site.

B.a.B.e., Be Active Be Emancipated
"B.a.B.e. is a strategic group located in Zagreb, Croatia, working for the affirmation and implementation of women's human rights." Find information concerning membership, B.a.B.e. projects, a model of a human rights workshop, the legal status of women in Croatia and more.

Bat Shalom of the Jerusalem
This feminist center for peace and social justice works toward a democratic and pluralistic society in Israel, where women will be of more influence. Find events involving Bat Shalom and the Jerusalem Center for Women.

Canadian International Development Agency
CIDA is the federal agency responsible for delivering most of Canada's Offical Development Assistance (ODA).

Center for Global Education
The Center for Global Education is recognized for its work on experimental education for North Americans interested in global issues. The site lists both short term international travel seminars and study abroad programs for undergraduate students.

Center for Women's Global Leadership
The CWGL seeks to develop an understanding of the ways in which gender affects power and public policy. Its gopher site is the centerpiece of CWGL's efforts to use Beijing as a springboard for increasing awareness about the issue of gender and human rights. Among documents describing CWGL's campaigns is information on the Petition to the UN to Promote and Protect the Human Rights of Women.

CIMAC
CIMAC is a Mexican feminist news agency that distributes articles about women's issues in Mexico and Latin America each week. Topics of the articles include domestic violence, pay-equity, rape and sexual assault, reproductive rights, motherhood and child-rearing, and other issues important to women worldwide.

Engender (Scotland)
Engender is a women's organization based in Edinburgh, Scotland. They are working on the"50/50 Campaign for a Scottish Parliament," an important issue for Scottish women, because they will have their first devolved, "new" parliament in 1999. They want to learn from women in other countries about establishing equal gender representation in politics. Their site also features meetings and events of interest to women in the area.

Global Center for Women's Studies and Politics
GLOW is a international forum for women from various cultural, national, and political perspectives. Their Web site features links to women's university programs, women's activities and programs, and feminist bookstores and foundations.

Find information on human rights issues worldwide.

Feminist International Radio Endeavour
FIRE's chief objective is to "give voice to the voiceless" by promoting non-sexist communications and inclusive language in the media. FIRE's programs address diverse themes including neo-liberal policies, women's human rights, the environment, racism, disabilities, militarism, sexualities, education, arts and culture.

Fundacioh Mujeres en Igualdad
This non-profit organization was instrumental in passing a legislative quota law to require that at least 30% of elected officials be female. The organization does political training throughout Argentina to prepare women for candidacy.

Global Reproductive Health Forum
This health forum is run by the Harvard School of Public Health. It is an excellent internet source for information on reproductive technology, rights, health and gender.

Human Rights Interactive Network
Find information on human rights issues worldwide.

Human Rights Watch
Human Rights Watch's informative site provides information on human rights abuses and advances worldwide, including recent news stories, take action items, and articles. Be sure to check out the Women's Rights Division, with information on women's status globally.

FORWARD
FORWARD is a volunteer organization working "to promote good reproductive health among African women and their children in the United Kingdom and Africa," and "the leading voluntary organisation in the United Kingdom working to eliminate FGM." The site contains informaton on female genital mutilation and the harm it causes women, as well as information about their current campaigns.

The Global Fund for Women
An international organization whose mission is to fight for women's human rights, the GFW site is both a financial and informational resource center for women's groups based outside of the U.S. The scope of the organization is broad, focusing on issues such as domestic violence, economic justice and literacy, and the international trafficking of women, to name just a few. The site contains an online newsletter, information about their programs on grantmaking and philanthropic education, details on their new video, and a section dedicated to frequently asked questions (FAQ).

International Alert
The Women Building Peace Campaign works to: Raise global awareness of women's experiences and perspectives of peace and conflict; Help women better realize their potential as peacebuilders from the village to the national level; Get more women included in all levels of peace processes; Affect the policy of international agencies, and Gain a greater commitment by the international community to gender considerations in peacebuilding and conflict transformation.

International Association for Feminist Economics
This site and organization is dedicated to sharing resources and fostering dialogue among economists and others globally, to advancing feminist inquiry into economic issues, and to educating economists, policy makers, and the general public on feminist points of view on economic issues. Site includes a listing of all past, current, and upcoming IAFFE events.

International Women's Democracy Center
The International Women's Democracy Center was established to strengthen women's global leadership through training, education, research and networking in all facets of democracy with a particular focus on increasing the participation of women in policy, politics and decision-making.

International Directory of Women's Political Leadership
This site contains the fourth edition of an international directory on women leaders and organizations around the world. It is maintained by the Center for Political Leadership & Participation at the University of Maryland--College Park.

Israel Women's Network
"A non-profit organization aiming to improve the status of women in Isreal through legislation, litigation, education, empowerment courses and other activities." Find information about law, empowerment, education, health and more.

The Korean Coucil for the Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery by Japan
A thorough resource of information about MSS, this site contains news from the Washington Coalition of Comfort Women's Issues, a number of links, recent news, a photo gallery,a library of articles, stirring accounts from survivors in a section called "witness," and a discussion room.

Linkages
A graphically impressive site, updated daily, that is rapidly becoming the one-stop center for information related to the UN conference. Major categories include late breaking news, background information, lists of other Beijing-realted web sites, and copies of Earth Negotiations Bulletin. There are a lot of long documents available on this comprehensive site, many of which are geared toward actual conference participants (subway maps, visa information). In addition, there is extensive follow-up information to the 1994 Cairo Conference on Population and Development. In part because hyperlinks are scattered throughout a series of paragraph narratives, navigating the overall site requires a disproportionate amount of on-line time. On top of everything else, this site now includes Voices from Beijing (using Real Audio technology), and Images from Beijing!

L.O. - Combat Violence Against Women
This Israeli nonprofit operates 3 shelters for battered women and children, runs 24-hour hotlines for both women and children, and offers lectures and day seminars on violence against women. The site is provided in both Hebrew and English, and some of L.O.'s resources are offered in Russian as well.

Madre
MADRE is a human rights organization that works in partnership with community-based women's organizations in conflict areas worldwide to address issues of health, education, economic development and other human rights. MADRE provides resources and training and works to empower people in the US to demand changes to unjust policies.

Manushi: A Journal About Women and Society
This magazine about women's lives and women's rights in India is published and edited in New Delhi by Madhu Kishwar. The web site features selected articles from recent issues, and information about how to subscribe.

Mujeres en Red
This site is an excellent tool for Spanish-speaking people interested in women's issues. It was created in Spain and addresses women's issues in Latin American and some Middle Eastern countries. Currently, there are three major campaigns on the site that strive to stop violence against women in Algeria, Afghanistan and Chiapas, Mexico. Additionally, you can find out about women's rights actions being taken around the world, country by country. Another highlight includes extensive information about domestic violence.

Nepal - Travel, Trekking and Trafficking
Information about the general status of women in Nepal is incorporated into this Web site along with detailed information about the sexual slavery and trafficking of Nepalese women.

Nisan Young Women Leaders
A web site for an organization that does leadership training for Jewish and Arab Israeli young women.

Oneworld Online
Based in London, Oneworld is an excellent resource center for international news, media, guides, education, partners, a gallery of artwork, and a take-action bulletin. Oneworld is the recipient of the best non-commercial site award.

Ontario Women's Justice Network
This site provides the current information on the status of the Ontario government's plan for anti-violence groups, upcoming events, links to other anti-violence and Candadian legal sites.

OSKa- The National Women's Information Center
This Polish site comes from a non-governmental, non-profit organization and works with Polish women-related organizations and initiatives. They deal with such issues as the law, policy developments, economics, the media and public opinion.

Q Web Sweden
Based on the idea that the way to better life and health for women is through empowerment, the site promotes women's health and equal rights by documenting projects on women's empowerment and health in Sweden and worldwide, with a focus on developing countries.

Rising Daughters Aware
RDA provides free information and services for FGM affected women, their physicians, other health care providers, social workers, counselors and attorneys. The RDA is dedicated to the existence of support and culturally sensitive, qualified medical and advocacy assistance for women who are seeking to avoid, or have already been subjected to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM.)

Russian Feminism Resources
This site bills itself as "a collection of links and info relating to Russian women, and the development of independent grass-roots feminism in Russia in recent years," but its resources are stronger than its description. The number and variety of links is impressive. The site also contains information on Russian women's literature and art on the net, women in Russia and other countries in East-Central Europe and e-mail lists.

Saheli
Saheli is a unique women's educational tour of India offered by the non-profit group Cross-Cultural Solutions. A once-a-year expedition, Saheli affords women the opportunity to travel to India and meet women from all walks of life, to discuss issues of importance to women worldwide, and to understand the role of women in Indian culture.

Spazio Donne (in Italian)
A women's page in the virtual city of La Citta Invisibile. This site offers information on women in Afghanistan, Algeria, Italy, with additional links to information on motherhood, a mailing list and more. (in italian)

Sisterhood Is Global
SIGI's newly-redesigned site includes action alerts for urgent human rights issues, information on SIGI's Human Rights Education program, upcoming events and conferences, SIGI's newletter and a detailed list of publication.

Swiss Union for Decriminalizing Abortion
Union suisse pour decriminaliser l'avortement (Swiss Union for decriminalizing abortion) has existed since 1973 and is fighting for abortion rights in Switzerland. It is also collaborating internationally for reproductive rights and has been involved in the Beijing and Beijing+5 process. It hopes to obtain legal recognition of abortion on request this year in Switzerland

United Nations Development Programme
This organization is the world's largest multilateral source of grant funding for development cooperation. Among its myriad goals, the UNDP is committed to ending poverty, regenerating the environment, creating jobs and the advancement of women. The site contains press releases (in English, French and Spanish), UN documents, publications and videos, reports, news about conferences, list of WWW servers worldwide, and even an online forum.

US/Israel Women to Women
This organization provides critical seed money for grassroots efforts which advocate equal status and fair treatment for both Arab and Jewish women in all spheres of Israeli life.

Violence Against Women in Korea
Find information on gender violence, discrimination, human rights issues, and the sexual enslavement of Korean women by the U.S. military.

Womankind Worldwide
Dedicated to aiding women in developing countries in their efforts to overcome poverty and ill health, to gain access to education and training, and to gain greater control of their lives, Womankind, a nonprofit organization, provides funding and information to developing communities worldwide.

WomenWatch
WomenWatch is a joint initiative of three entities in the UN system specifically devoted to women's issues: DAW, UNIFEM, & INSTRAW. The site serves as a gateway to UN information and data on women world wide and an evolving forum on global women's issues in the follow-up to the FWCW and constitutes an electronicspace for exchange of information and ideas on women's issues. Find information on the UN's work on behalf of the women of the world, the global agenda for improving the status of women, UN committees, conferences, and activities of the commission on the status of women.

Women Online Worldwide
Focusing on a variety of physical and mental health issues, this site features chats and support groups as well as links by issue.

Women's Human Rights Resources
from the DIANA International Human Rights Database Devoted to Women's Human Rights lists links and documents on many general and specific topics including FGM, property & housing issues, and trafficking. Also find a an extensive bibliography on a number of specific human rights issues.

Women's International League for Peace and Freedom
WILPF works for "the equality of all people in a world free of sexism, racism, classism, and homophobia, the guarantee of fundamental human rights including the right to sustainable development, an end to all forms of violence: rape, battering, exploitation, intervention and war, the transfer of world resources from military to human needs, leading to economic justice within and among nations, world disarmament and peaceful resolution of international conflicts via the United Nations." Women's EDGE
Women's EDGE is a coalition of individuals and organizations dedicated to ensuring that U.S. international aid and trade programs work for women. It gives information on globalization and how it is affecting women worldwide.

Women's Resource Centre in London
The Women's Resource Centre seeks to strengthen the women's voluntary sector in London and to build its capacity for offering high-quality, user-led services for women.

WomensNet@IGC
WomensNet, "a global community of women, activists, and organizations using computer networks for information sharing, broadcast and collaboration with the intent of increasing women's rights," has made a committment to providing information on the Beijing conference over the Internet. Its homepage links to two extremely detailed sections on the UN meeting. Information from the U.S. State Department, Center for Women's Global Leadership, and the Women's Environment and Development Organization (WEDO) is provided. Clicking on the Beijing '95: Women, Power & Change icon on WomensNet's home page brings up a web site filled with sections covering Non-Governmental Organzations (NGOs), a News Room, and even an art gallery featuring 56 photographs and artifacts from China.

Women's Online Media Project
Set up by volunteers in Japan to disseminate information on Internet sites related to Beijing, WOM's site is essentially a collection of links (without descriptions). The page is also available in Japanese.

WomensWire - Beijing + 5 Online Magazine
The site features a regional breakdown of women's activism leading up to the June review of Beijing +5 as well as a calendar of events at the United Nations where the Commission on the Status of Women is currently holding a preparatory meeting for NGOs (non-governmental organizations) participating in the review. The site also hosts the Declaration adopted at the Beijing Conference, an opinion page and a series of current headlines. A chat room, bulletin board, fully searchable version of the Platform for Action, links to other websites and in-depth reports on regional activism leading up to the review.

WomMed/FemMed
WomMed/FemMed brings together women and men from around the world who are working together to redress gender-balance in access to expression and decision-making in the mediaThe trilingual Web-site (English, French, Spanish) includes information about the Network, news of events and programs relating to women and communication, references to initiatives developed by members and links to relevant documents. It contains an electronic version of the periodical Exchange Bulletin prepared by the Communications Department of UNESCO.

The World's Women On-Line
An impressive site featuring digital images of artwork by women artists from all over the world, done in conjunction with the Beijing conference. There are hundreds of artists listed, and detailed instructions for submitting work.

Zisvaw
Zisvaw is a Zonta International program dedicated to the eradication of violence against women and children. Zisvaw offers legislation information, resource materials and links to related sites.
