Michigan Governor to Veto Abortion Ban
Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm is expected to veto a ban on certain late-term abortion procedures known as "partial-birth abortion," which the Michigan state Senate passed this week. The bill, Senate bill 0776, does not include an exception for the health of the mother, reports the Associated Press. The bill only allow exceptions in cases of a serious threat to the woman's life.
"She will veto that bill," said Liz Boyd, spokeswoman for Granholm, according to RH Reality Check. "The bill is unnecessary. It does not take into consideration the health of the mother."
The House passed the bill with enough votes to override a veto, but the Senate was one vote short, reports RH Reality Check.
