Women's Groups Press for Equality in Cabinet

Women's groups are pushing the Clinton administration to diversify the Clinton cabinet and appoint women to key spots including one of several vacancies in national security positions. Women's rights leaders are waiting to see if U.N. Ambassador Madeleine Albright will be named the first woman secretary of state. Clinton has said less about appointing women to key positions than he did four years ago and has delayed making any appointments due to the Thanksgiving holiday and his hoarse voice after a 12-day Asian tour. Clinton has appointed more women to judgeships and Cabinet posts than previous presidents, but white men are still the aides present for important decision-making and with whom Clinton seems most comfortable.
