CA Governor Denies Parole for Battered Women

California Governor Gray Davis reversed two parole recommendations earlier this month for two battered women who killed, or were involved in the killing of, their long-time abusive partners. Parole was denied for Flozelle Woodmore, who is serving a sentence of 15 years to life in prison for the murder of her abusive boyfriend, Clifton Morrow. Woodmore shot Morrow after he hit her in the face and pushed their son against a wall. She was 18 years old at the time, and pregnant with their second child. Davis also denied parole for Mary Ramp, who hired two men to kill her husband in 1982, after having suffered years of physical abuse. Read more articles on battered womens syndrome.
