The No More Excuses Video and Action Kit features a poignant new video No More Excuses: Stop Rapists by Testing Evidence Kits Now!, produced and directed by Lorraine Sheinberg and written and narrated by Susan Rubin.
This shocking video exposes the failure of law enforcement departments across the country to process rape evidence kits. The backlog enables serial rapists – and the vast majority of rapes are committed by serial rapists – free to rape again.
This powerful educational video also examines the need for a modernized Uniform Crime Report definition of rape by the FBI. Currently, the UCR's definition excludes victims of nonconsensual sodomy and oral sex, and those raped with fingers, fists or objects. And all male victims, of course. Also, because the definition includes the word "forcibly," police departments often interpret the rule (against UCR guidelines) as leaving out rapes of women with physical or mental disabilities and those who were unconscious or under the influence of drugs and alcohol (despite the fact that at least 22 percent of all rapes involve those substances or incapacitated victims—and some studies put the number as high as 77 percent).
This 15 minute film is ideal for showings by organizations and groups as part of educational and action campaigns to reduce the untested rape kit backlogs, urge the FBI to adopt a modern definition of rape, and secure greater law enforcement and community resources to stop rape.
As part of your action kit, you'll also receive print materials and resources from the No More Excuses Campaign.
