Why is the federal budget a feminist issue?
When the Republicans want to cut welfare, education, and health care --
they are by and large cutting women's jobs. When Congress takes away the earned income tax
credit, they are hurting women and those families who depend upon
women's wages.
Eighty-five percent of those on Medicaid are women and children. Women
are 58% of Medicare recipients. Women are more dependent than men on student
loans. But we almost never see a gender breakdown of federal expenditures
and revenues.
