On the heels of Rock for Choice’s critically-acclaimed first major label release, Spirit of ‘73: Rock for Choice, Sony 550 Records in conjunction with Rock for Choice will promote nearly 50 concerts this fall. Spirit of ‘73 features the Indigo Girls, Rosanne Cash, Sarah McLachlan, Babes in Toyland, Johnette Napolitano, L7 and other female artusts performing women-written hits of the seventies.Sony’s team of 50 college representatives will organize shows on or near college campuses across the country. One of these memorable concerts has already taken place in Albany, New York. This concert was to feature only local bands, but members of Eve’s Plum, a Spirit of ‘73 contributor, happened to be in the audience and performed their version of "If I Can’t Have You" (featured on the CD) to the sold-out crowd.
In conjunction with the concerts, the College Representatives will sponsor record-listening parties and voter registration drives to help promote the album.
Along with Sony’s promotions, Rock for Choice is planning two bi-coastal concerts in January 1996, on the 23rd anniversary of the Supreme Court passage of Roe v. Wade. These concerts will feature artists from Spirit of ‘73 -- the title refers to the year of Roe v. Wade which made abortion legal in the United States.
Rock for Choice also has a December holiday concert planned in Los Angeles. This merry winter show will be held at the Hollywood Palladium and will feature those punk rock platinum elves the Offspring.
Sony is also planning to release a holiday record benefitting Rock for Choice in 1996. Fifteen tracks have already been recorded for this project, including tracks by Sponge, Lisa Germano, Luscious Jackson, Mike Watt, and Henry Rollins.
