- A federal grand jury in Norfolk, VA investigating anti-abortion violencehas indicted two people, Jennifer Sperle and Clark Martin, forarson and conspiracy to commit violence stemming from fires atVirginia abortion clinics.
- RU486 FDA Application Completed
- At long last, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will review anapplication to market RU 486 (mifepristone) in the United States.The Population Council submitted a new drug application for mifepristoneto the FDA in March, and announced that legal rights to arrangethe manufacture and distribute the drug have been awarded to Advancesin Health Technology, a newly formed group headed by Dr. SusanAllen.

- WomenDoctors Lose NIH Sex Discrimination Lawsuit
- Twowomen doctors who sued the National Institutes of Health havelost in federal district court. Judge Deborah Chasanow dismissedthe cases of Dr. Maureen Polsby and Dr. Margaret Jensvold,who sued the National Institutes of Health and the Departmentof Health and Human Services for sex discrimination. In her opinion,Judge Chasanow said the claims were in part "skewed"and "fabricated."

- Tomobilize women police officers to fight the deceptive CaliforniaCivil Rights Initiative (CCRI), the Director of the Feminist MajorityFoundation's National Center for Women and Policing, PennyHarrington, will travel throughout California holding briefingsfor women in law enforcement.

- Determinedthat feminists must help reshape the current budget debate, FeministMajority Foundation president Eleanor Smeal featured thetheme of Developing a Feminist Federal Budget at Expo '96. Expoparticipants could attend three "training sessions"on the federal budget, as well as a General Assembly and symposium.
- U.S.Women Push for Implementing UN Women's Conference Goals
- Only8 months have passed since the United Nations Fourth World Conferenceon Women (FWCW), and the push to implement its strategies forwomen's equality are in full swing in the United States.
- GermanWomen Call for Olympic Ban on "Gender Apartheid" Countries
- In response to the fact that 35 countries have no women athletesregistered for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, German womenpolitical officials have asked the International Olympic Committee(IOC) to bar countries from the Olympics that do not allow womenparticipants. These women are part of an international movement,called "Atlanta Plus," to pressure the IOC to take actionagainst countries that discriminate against women. In addition,the European Council, a policy body of the European Union, hasdecided to put the issue on their agenda.

- Twocontests were held at Expo '96 for Women's Empowerment: "Visualizinga Feminist Future," a student architecture contest; and anonprofit exhibit booth contest.
