The Marvelous Amazing National (Almost) Chain Letter

T he chain letter in support of the Feminist Majority Foundation's Clinic Defense Program, which was started out of our Los Angeles office last May, has now reached 25 states. Some of the donors to the chain letter are Madonna, Halle Berry, Bonnie Franklin, Helen Hunt, Kathy Najimy, Pat Schroeder, Sharon Stone, Barbara Walters, Susan Sarandon and Joanne Woodward. If any of you would like to help us, this is a really painless way to raise money and it is legal.

Here's a copy of the letter that you can send to your friends:

Dear ___________,

I am trying to help raise $500,000 for the National Clinic Defense Program of the Feminist Majority Foundation of Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. The National Clinic Defense Program started in 1989 to stop Operation Rescue from blockading clinics and trying to keep women from exercising their right to choose. Since its beginning, Clinic Defense organizers have worked in 43 cities in 25 states, making a difference. The Clinic Defense Program's mobilization of pro-choice support, work to increase clinic security measures, and success in securing intensified federal and state law enforcement response, have reduced the level of violence nationwide.

But the murders of doctors and clinic workers, last year's double bombings of an Atlanta clinic, and January 1998's fatal bombing in Birmingham, are stark reminders that anti-abortion violence continues. The battle isn't won yet. More funds must be raised to help sustain the Clinic Defense Program's critical work. In order to help reach the targeted amount, I ask you to do the following:

1. Please forward a check for $10 (no more) made payable to Clinic Defense to: Feminist Majority Foundation, 8105 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles, CA 90048.
2. Please retype this letter on your own letterhead and send it to ten people you know will be able to help.

All contributions are fully tax deductible because no goods or services have been offered to you or received by you in consideration of your gift.

Thanks for your help. Let's hope this unique fund raising attempt makes a difference.
