Spring 1995 Look for the new Rock for ChoiceTM CD in stores! Spirit of '73: Rock for Choice is a compilation album featuring female singers of the 90s celebrating songs written and made famous by female singers of the 70s.
Spirit of '73: Rock for Choice includes classic 70s anthems like Joni Mitchell's "River" sung by Rosanne Cash, Joan Baez's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" sung by Sophie B. Hawkins, and Sister Sledge's smash hit "We Are Family" sung by Ebony Vibe Everlasting. Also included are the Indigo Girls, Sarah McLachlan, Eve's Plum, L7, Melissa Ferrick, Babes in Toyland, and Letters to Cleo.
Spirit of '73: Rock for Choice was created as a way to remind listeners of the 1973 Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion nationwide. It is also a reminder that, not too long ago, abortion was illegal -- and many politicians today would like to turn the clock back to those days of dangerous, illegal abortions.
The Feminist Majority is also proud to introduce RealAudio to the site. The RealAudio software allows you to listen to sound over the Internet without the long download time - even with only a 14.4 modem connection!
But first, you need to get the RealAudio player if you don't already have it. The downside is that sound quality is sacrificed for speed, so don't be alarmed if the sound is a little garbled.
For those of you with faster connections, or those who want to hear the songs with a higher-quality recording, click on the "AIFF" version of the song. Netscape users, as well as those using other popular browsers, will be able to hear these sound clips through their browsers.
