Welcome to the Walk for Women's Lives!
On April 23, 2006 the Feminist Majority Foundation hosted their first Walk for Women’s Lives, a 5K (3.2 mile) walk starting at the Women’s Memorial in Arlington, VA. As walkers enjoyed the last of the cherry blossoms, the mild DC weather and the companionship of friends and family, they contributed to potentially life-saving research on reproductive cancers.
For more than a decade, the Feminist Majority Foundation has been encouraging and advocating for clinical trials using mifepristone, an anti-progesterone compound medication, for progesterone-receptor positive cancers, such as uterine and ovarian cancers, that primarily affect women. Now, the Feminist Majority Foundation has put together a team of prestigious clinical researchers, attorneys, and FDA specialists, and is moving ahead with Phase II clinical trials for women with these types of uterine and ovarian cancers.
To raise money for these clinical trials FMF launched the Walk for Women's Lives, which included a national walk with the participation of Washington, DC area colleges and communities, as well as local walks on campuses across the country. All proceeds from the National Walk for Women’s Lives went to support research on the use of mifepristone to treat uterine and ovarian cancers. Proceeds from the local campus walks went to support this lifesaving research as well as women's health education and advocacy programs on campus. Host your own walk this spring to continue funding this important research.
