Dolores C. Huerta, board member

Dolores Huerta is president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation, which is dedicated to the development of community leaders, advocating for working poor, women and children. She travels daily, speaking at universities and organizational forums on issues of social justice and public policy. 

Huerta is the Co-founder, former Secretary/Treasurer, and First Vice President Emeritus of the United Farm Workers of America. She is a Board Member of the Feminist Majority and Equality California. Huerta, the most widely acclaimed contemporary Mexican-American women, has received numerous awards received, including The Eleanor Roosevelt Humans Rights Award from President Clinton in 1988, Ms. Magazine’s one of the three most important women in 1997, Ladies Home Journal’s 100 most important woman of the 20th Century, Puffin Foundation award for Creative Citizenship Labor Leader Award 1984, the Ohtli award from the Mexican Government, Smithsonian Institution - James Smithson Award, and Eleven Honorary Doctorates from Universities throughout the United States. She has been an unparalleled Community Organizer and Activist for over 50 years. Huerta has eleven children, fifteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
